Position Overview:
Coordinate and track construction safety programs and procedures to ensure the safety of the physical environment for employees and to ensure compliance with applicable University Mechanical policies and local, state, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Safety Director to enhance and maintain the UMC safety culture.
- Provide safety management, inspection, and consulting on UMC jobsites.
- Participate in new project planning, providing start-up lists and safety requirements.
- Assist with work plans, job hazard analysis, and pre-task planning.
- Inspect safety equipment on site and before it is sent out from the warehouse.
- Consult with foremen and crews on safety procedures and best practices.
- Maintain regular and open communication with general contractor/owner safety representatives.
- Attend the general contractor's safety meetings as requested.
- Provide real- time management of incidents.
- Assist the Safety Director with accident investigations and ensure completed accident reports are distributed as required.
- Monitor/support all light duty employees on job sites and inform the Safety Director of status.
- Conduct and document weekly site safety inspections and monitor/ report compliance.
- Report all inspection violations to appropriate supervision for correction.
- Specify, standardize, and occasionally present weekly site safety meetings.
- Provide and document site-specific safety training when needed.
- Ensure site- specific SDS files are maintained and accessible to crews.
- Collect, evaluate, and maintain file copies of the subcontractor's safety programs and compliance forms.
- Regular attendance and promptness are considered part of each employee's essential job functions.
Secondary Responsiblities:
- Assist the Safety Director with Safety training, and compliance assessment.
- Occasionally check jobsite fire extinguishers to ensure that they are in date compliance.
- Occasionally check jobsite first aid kits to ensure that they are stocked adequately.
- Collects/files accident report documentation and ensures completed accident reports are distributed as required.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High School diploma required; college degree preferred.
- Five years of related experience preferred.
Required Licensing and Other Certifications:
- Maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
