Experience Required

• PGA or LPGA of America membership (Class A preferred) or strong golf professional credentials.
• Proven experience managing golf operations at an 18-hole public or semi-public facility (retail shop, leagues/tournaments, youth programs).
• Strong merchandising, inventory and retail-sales skills.
• Excellent staff leadership, training, and scheduling ability.
• Excellent customer service and community engagement skills.
• Ability to collaborate with maintenance/grounds team and understand turf/playability issues.
• Ability to think strategically about annual operations, seasonal adjustments, and off-season programming.
• Proficiency with golf operations software (tee sheets, Tag Marshall, POS systems) and Microsoft Office.
• Availability on weekends and evenings as required by golf-course hours and tournaments.

Essential Responsibilities

Evanston Parks & Recreation District is seeking an experienced, high-energy Head Golf Professional & Operations Manager to lead the golf operations at Purple Sage Golf Course. This role emphasizes operations (pro shop & customer service, merchandising, leagues, tournaments, youth programming) with secondary focus on instruction. The facility is seasonal outdoors; winter activity will include pro-shop indoor operations and golf simulator/lesson programming.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the full golf operations: pro shop management, merchandising (equipment/clothing/accessories), inventory control, retail purchases.
• Develop and grow leagues, tournaments, youth programming, player-development initiatives.
• Hire, train, schedule, and manage golf operations staff (shop personnel, starters/assistants).
• Collaborate closely with the Grounds Superintendent to ensure consistent course conditions, pace-of-play, tournament and league setups.
• Manage tee sheet/starting times, cart fleet operations, pace of play standards.
• Oversee financial tracking and reporting: retail sales, lessons revenue, tournament income, expense budgets.
• Develop and manage a winter strategy (indoor simulator, lessons, pro-shop sales) to maximize year-round engagement.
• Provide occasional instruction (lessons/clinics) - though priority is operations.
• Provide strong customer service, build community relationships, and position Purple Sage as a valued public-golf destination.
