Group Leader
Operating continuously since 1916, Raquette Lake Camps is a traditional brother/sister sleep-away camp, located on opposite sides of stunning Raquette Lake, nestled in the heart of the stunning Adirondack State Park of upstate New York. We are family-owned/operated and offer both campers and staff a nurturing environment and the finest in programs and facilities.
Raquette Lake Camps doesn’t entertain campers, we engage them. And to make sure that happens, we’re looking for mature, experienced boys and girls Group Leaders who’ll report directly to and work closely with the Camp Director. GLs are the backbone of camp, overseeing the counselor staff, directly engaged with the day-to-day life of the campers, and are the conduit between camp and our parents.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY
To supervise approximately 30 campers and 15 counselors through day-to-day camp life
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- At least three years of overnight camp experience in a camper-facing role, preferably supervisory
- Ability to relate to campers ranging from 6-15
- Ability to supervise staff and manage schedules
- Ability to relate to one’s peer group
- Ability to speak with and communicate effectively with parents
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision
- Good character, integrity and ability to adapt to camp setting
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
- BS or BA in Education a plus
Requirements
SELECT RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clean and set up bunk facilities during Orientation
- Help teach staff their responsibilities during Orientation
- Conduct daily check of bunk area for safety, cleanliness and good repair
- Wake-up campers and staff at Reveille and monitor the morning line-up
- Supervise the group in the dining hall and assist the kitchen staff when necessary
- Supervise and assist in bunk clean up, inspecting each to maintain a desired standard of cleanliness
- Observe and often participate with the group during activity
- Assist in the daily processing and delivery of mail; and the collection of outgoing mail to parents
- Monitor the group at rest hour and after dinner hours
- Interact with parents on an as-needed basis
- Help organize evening activities and activities for special events
- Supervise the collection and return of laundry once a week
- Supervise "on duty" team once a week during rest hour and during evenings, checking out "off-duty" counselors, checking them back in
- Do everything in your power to make sure that every camper and counselor have a positive camp experience
SALARY: Starting compensation begins at $4500 and will increase based on experience. Room and board are included, private or semi-private accommodations, and travel allowances are also available. We can discuss camp opportunities for your children, if necessary.
