Job Purpose:
The University Ministry team supports Gonzaga University in fulfilling its Jesuit, Catholic, humanistic mission through campus ministry programming, pastoral and spiritual care, mission education, and formation for faith, spirituality, and leadership. The Campus Minister for Liturgical Life contributes to this work by creating a contextually responsive liturgical environment. This person will collaborate with campus partners, the University Ministry team, and engage in pastoral ministry. The University Ministry team is looking to add a member who is excited about the prospect of working on a team and energized about responding to the religious, spiritual, and developmental needs of contemporary college students.
Please note: the Campus Minister for Liturgical Life must be a practicing Catholic with the skills to coordinate Catholic liturgies. They need not be a liturgical musician, although that would be welcome - they simply need to be able to coordinate music and musicians for Masses.
Essential Functions:
- 40% - Regular Liturgical Life
- Coordinate weekly Sunday Catholic Mass and weekday Catholic Mass on campus with attention to undergraduate students as the primary audience
- Train, schedule, form, and develop volunteer and paid liturgical ministers individually and as a liturgical ministry community
- Schedule and communicate with Jesuits from Della Strada Jesuit community to preside at Mass Cultivate a contextually responsive approach to liturgical life for the Gonzaga University community
- Research and maintain contemporary understanding of relevant formational and liturgical tools to develop University liturgical life
- Coordinate music and musicians to provide contextually appropriate music for Masses
- Creatively utilize available resources to maintain a cost-effective approach to liturgy
- Manage the liturgical life budget
- Supervise and develop student employees for liturgical life
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Effectively communicate, invite, and advertise for all available liturgical opportunities
- Proactively gather and respond to insight from students and Jesuit community
- Ensure sacred spaces are appropriately stocked and organized, and valuable supplies are appropriately stored
- Utilize personal prayer life to inform leadership of prayer and worship experiences - (Essential)
- 15% - Large Liturgies; Occasional Celebrations, Memorials, and Vigils-
- Serve as project coordinator for University-wide liturgies including Welcome Mass, Mass of the Holy Spirit, and Commencement Mass
- Effectively collaborate with campus partners and stakeholders to plan and implement large liturgies
- Respond as needed to create and implement relevant memorials, vigils, and celebrations - both within the Catholic tradition and in non-Catholic contexts when appropriate
- Recruit volunteers as needed to serve as liturgical ministers for each liturgy
- Coordinate music and musicians for as required for liturgies
- Intentionally invite and advertise to University community Invite and train University Ministry team and members of the Della Strada Jesuit Community
- Develop a consistent and proactive strategy for implementation for each Mass
- Effectively manage budget for large liturgies
- Appropriately plan liturgical content to ensure timely completion of liturgical service as well as a hospitable environment for guests (especially those less familiar with Catholic Masses) - (Essential)
- 15% - Spiritual Mentoring, Accompaniment, Direction-
- Maintain an understanding of basic theological tenets of Christianity and the spectrum of denominational differences, especially familiarity with Catholicism and the range of expressions of the Catholic faith
- Maintain regular practice of personal faith and prayer life
- Ability to articulate personal experience and expression of faith
- Nurture strong interpersonal skills and cultivate practice of listening
- Engage in student-focused practice of relational ministry
- Engage and build relationships with varied and diverse populations - (Essential)
- 15% - Collaboration with University Ministry Team
- Collaborate with other team members to plan and implement University Ministry departmental celebrations and gatherings
- Fully participate in the life of University Ministry and the Division of Mission Integration
- Serve as a collaborator in departmental programming when necessary, utilizing liturgical skills and more general ministerial skills
- Attend to departmental needs, serve as active and engaged team member with attention to more than just liturgical life program
- Lead student-focused prayer and worship experiences for the department and the broader university community
- Utilize personal prayer life to inform leadership of prayer and worship experiences - (Essential)

Educational Requirement:
Bachelor's Degree
Years of Related Experience Requirement:
2 years
In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

Skills & Abilities:
- Prior training or experience with youth/campus ministry and liturgical life (some of this experience may be as a participant and/or volunteer)
- Experience coordinating Catholic liturgical life
- Ability to coordinate music for Catholic Masses
- Coordinator must be a practicing Catholic
- Comfort facilitating practices of Catholic sacramental life (adoration, etc.)
- Ability to self-start, openness to growth
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word
- Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated time management, punctuality, and priority setting skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with music ministry and ability to play piano or guitar for Mass - not required
- Familiarity with Ignatian Spirituality and Jesuit education
- Experience with liturgical life in the university context
- Experience implementing, creating, and/or sustaining ministry programming

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $27.69-$30.00
Pay Range:
Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): $24.39
Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): $30.48
Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): $36.57
