Description
Green Diamond is seeking an Area Forester for its Klamath Falls, Oregon operations. This role supports the Oregon timberland operations by planning and implementing harvest layouts, selecting silviculture methods, and supervising company and contract crews. The Area Forester helps ensure all activities meet regulatory requirements, company standards, and SFI expectations. This is a field-forward role that requires strong coordination, consistent follow-through, and the ability to make sound decisions in real time.
Job tasks include:
- Promote a safe workplace and model safe behaviors at all times.
- Identify and select areas for harvesting, chip thinning, pulp production, and other silviculture investments.
- Assess laydown quality and chip thinning results and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Assist in laying out harvest units and haul roads in compliance with state and federal regulations and company standards.
- Support logging and road construction/maintenance administration and perform field checks to ensure contract and harvest plan compliance.
- Conduct road and stream crossing assessments across ownership.
- Assist with harvest operations planning to maximize efficiency and support accurate production and sales forecasting.
- Oversee site prep, planting, and other silviculture activities.
- Provide leadership to crews during wildfire events and help plan and implement pile burning and hazard abatement.
- Apply and communicate company policies consistently to promote efficient operations.
- Ensure compliance with SFI standards, Forest Practice Rules, and local regulations.
- Communicate effectively with community members when needed and represent the company at meetings and events.
Requirements
This job requires a bachelor's degree in Forest Management, Natural Resource Management, or a related field with 3-7 years of forestry experience. In this role you must be self-directed, organized, and able to manage shifting priorities. Must have clear communication skills, maintain strong working relationships with coworkers and regulatory partners. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, understand the Forest Practice Rules, and bring problem-solving, solution based mindset to work. A valid drivers license is also required.
